The Cape Coral budget is crucial to our city’s health, and it’s important for citizens to grasp the effects of our recent changes to fully understand our fiscal situation.
Budgeting can be complex, but with the help of my campaign, I’ve created two graphics to clarify things. One adjusts the budget for inflation (note: this does not reflect your total tax bill), and the other compares the inflation adjusted budget to the city’s population, showing the per capita real budget.
You will see the council, mayor, and city manager have come together to reduce spending and produce the lowest per capita real budget in a decade.
(Keep in mind the council currently up for election was voted into office in November of 2020!)
Sometimes it can be helpful to view the budget as a per dollar cost per resident. This gives us the ability to see if the spending habits of the city are becoming more liberal or conservative. As you can see when I got into office, we have been on a consistent downtrend, decreasing spending per resident and ensuring a fiscally responsible budget plan.
